The
Canvas Gallery is proud to be exhibiting award winning Brighton artist
Christopher Gilvan-Cartwright. Gilvan-Cartwright engages in a major project
involving, as he expresses it "the imagination and the dynamic properties of
painted reality". The artist uses anything at hand (paper, sponge, broken
brushes) to wipe back, blob on and build layers of paint that seem to float in
space that is as much about the act of painting as it is the "dream world" it
reveals". His sources are Tarkowsky films, early episodes of Dr. Who, Old
Masters and The Black Forrest, starting points for richly coloured landscape
paintings which sparkle with preternatural light.
