| Colleen Slater LRPS - Photographer Born in Newport, Wales and studied there for a BA in Fine Art Painting with photography at Newport College of Art and Design. Came to Brighton to do a postgraduate Art teaching course and has lived here ever since. During the last year has been working on the underwater flower series of photographs. These formed a panel of work which was awarded a Licentiateship by the Royal Photographic Society and will be shown in the Open House exhibition. She uses a macro lens and extension tubes for close focusing and coloured gels filter sunlight to create interesting colour effects. The flowers, with oxygen bubbles on the petals and printed many times life-size, are abstracted and fascinating. The photographs are primarily about form and colour and, being printed on matte art paper, have the look of gouache paintings that reflect Colleen’s background in Fine Art. |
