Andrew Wilkey Andrew is a narrative painter, working mostly in acrylic paint on canvas. Presently he is primarily exploring imagined landscapes and spaces inspired by both a love of the countryside and deep interest in symbols and mythology. “My pictures explore representations of emotions, memories and dreams. They express different aspects of being human like desire and hope and they do this through symbol, colour and the rhythm of the applied paint. My recent work has become concerned with a strong sense of 'place', but these are internal places, part of a journey or a moment in story.” |
| Some
recent paintings are informed by memories of walking in Cornwall
and Somerset as a child and as an adult. “I have always been tantalised
by the next view over the hill or the chance to explore a new path. I
also just have a great love of trees and plants, rocks and clouds!” Andrew lives in Hove (East Sussex) and has family in Cornwall. He studied Art Foundation at the Bath Academy and then graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting) from Maidstone College of Art in 1989.
